It was in December last year
when the Bing Maps Preview app on Windows 8.1 was launched, as it opened up the
doors to folks who want to explore the world in a totally new manner – one that
is touch-friendly, of course. In fact, the folks over at Bing Maps claimed to
have flown, driven and processed plenty ever since December 2013 in order to
deliver another 15 more 3D cities to the initial launch list.
Thanks to the assistance of
Master Builders – er, sorry, world builders from the video game industry,
alongside the help and assistance from expert photogrammetrists, high definition
aerial cameras and a huge data pipeline that is capable of crunching petabytes
of imagery, the Bing team has delivered a far more natural method of
experiencing this beautiful planet we call home. One is able to touch it, tilt
it, tap it or turn it in order to immerse oneself and experience maps in
totally new methods. The advanced geometry engine, street labels and markers
will be able to dynamically adapt to your vantage point, allowing you to
traverse the landscape in a new 3D manner. The cities that will now gain
360-degree views include Duisburg, Dresden, Marbella, Murcia, Montgomery,
Bakersfield, Sacramento, San Francisco, Gainesville, Tallahassee, Columbus,
Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Gulport, Seattle, and San Francisco..
