Facebook Users Will Be Able To Anonymously Log Into Third Party Apps
There’s a reason why I always avoid signing into an app with a social media account, particularly Facebook, because previously it wasn’t possible to do so without sharing your personal details. That changes today. At the F8 developer conference today Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the social network’s one-billion plus users will soon be able to sign into third-party apps anonymously. Zuckerberg says that this is a new way for Facebook users to “try apps without fear.”

Apart from Anonymous Login, a new version of Facebook Login was also announced that comes with improved privacy controls. Facebook users can revert to this when they’re comfortable enough with the new app to share details with it. New privacy controls will let users pick and choose what information the app developers get.
Facebook has said that it is currently testing Anonymous Login with a few developers and plans to open it up to more developers in the coming months. Even the new Facebook Login will need a couple of months before it is rolled out for all users.
The social network also showed off a new redesigned app control panel today, the idea behind which is to give users “a clean and simple way to keep track” of Facebook-connected applications. From the control panel users can see a list of apps they use, remove them and manage specific permissions. This rolls out to all users over the next few weeks.
