Science center singapore

Singapore has been rated as the top travel destination in 2015. The little country is no longer a mere stop over destination. Singapore caters not only to high end shopping malls, luxury hotels and food but also offers wholesome family entertainment. The variety is engaging kid entertainment centers are amazing. One such entertainment centre for kids and science lovers is their Science Centre Singapore.

My frined have been there twice and each time even as an adult found the activities and exhibits thoroughly engaging and fun filled. Children s (aged 8 and 12 then) rated this among the best in Singapore. Coming from kids, it has to be genuine!

Brief History

Science Centre Singapore was started in 10th December 1977. The major themes other than science and technology that were exhibited were life sciences, physical sciences, and applied sciences. Over the years the centre has been adding more and more exhibits and simulated experience centers.

Highlights of the Science Centre Singapore

The Omni-Theatre, Singapore’s only IMAX dome theatre, brought a new dimension to the learning of Science. It was opened in 1987. The larger-than-life documentaries and films provide unforgettable and immersive experience for all. The educational films cover several genres like science, space, nature, animals, marine life, culture, natural disasters and more.
Science Centre Singapore houses Southeast Asia’s largest Observatory.
Snow City is a permanent indoor Snow Centre in science centre. The major attraction here is a 60 meters long snow slope for visitors to ski, snowboard and snow tube. Tourists from tropical countries, who hardly get to experience snow, enjoy this most. Adequate dressing material is available on hire. This one won my children’s heart. It was their first experience with snow.
Latest addition in April 2014 is a world class sport climbing wall (using the international Vertigo Climbing System). Named as: The Cliff, it was launched to enhance its facilities and cater to students and fans of this popular sport.

Tips to Visit

The Science Centre has a long list of permanent exhibits and temporary exhibits. Each exhibit easily takes averagely half an hour. If you intend to be there for just a day, I suggest make a good study of the exhibits, see what matches your and your children’s interest. Find the location in the map of the centre. That will help in good utilization of the time there.
