Apps such as WhatsApp, Line, WeChat and Voxer have definitely done their fair share to advance ever more affordable communication between the masses – as long as one is connected to a Wi-Fi network or has a decent data plan, and are using a smartphone. Well, Voxer, a pioneer in push-to-talk (PTT) and multimedia messaging, has just announced that Voxer 3.0 for iOS is released. This will be a completely redesigned app, where it is touted to deliver faster access to new messages, boast of extended battery life as well as a redesigned, intuitive user interface that will be able to deliver a seamless and content rich push-to-talk experience.
Of course, what is the whole point of a new version of a particular app if there are not going to be any kind of new features introduced? Among the new features that can be found in the iOS7 app include speed, as Voxer 3.0 will take advantage of improvements in the networking layer (iSPDY) in order to dramatically lower latency and message delivery time. Not only that, notifications will now be pre-loaded on devices, hence reducing message access times even further as the app launches.
One will also be able to experience a more intuitive interface thanks to a flat design which will remain consistent with the iOS platform. Voxer 3.0 will leverage native icons wherever possible so that one goes through an intuitive experience most of the time, while chat bubbles and controls emphasize app content so that users are able to focus on the information which is most important to them, all the while without losing sight of familiar Voxer features and components.
As for the improved battery life, the audio engine has been updated so that Voxer can better preserve battery life, especially in walkie-talkie mode. One can also now access to heard/read receipts and location information, and in a group messaging situation, the data will appear on a per user basis. Voxer 3.0 for iOS will go live tomorrow between 10am and noon PT, so hold your horses.
